Minolta AF 100mm 1:2 (32)

The Minolta 2.0/100mm is one of the real gems in the Minolta AF system. It is one of the few lenses that can be used without hesitating - at any aperture, at any sensor. At the 24MP FF sensor of the alpha 900 this little lens delivers absoltutely stunning resolution and contrast - even wide open. While the prices for a used Minolta 2.0/100mm have already reached unusual levels - often close to the retail price from 1990 - they probably will raise further. Pictures taken with this lens and the alpha 900 are simply extraordinary.

Below some 100% crops from the Sony alpha 900 (full frame, 24MP) using my Minolta AF 2.0/100mm. The RAW files were converted using Photoshop / Camera Raw 4.6 beta. "Sharpening" was set to 50, the "Radius" to 0.5 pixels, and "Detail" to 50. No correction for chromatic aberrations was applied.

Below some 100% crops from the Sony alpha 700 (APS-C, 12MP) using my Minolta AF 2.0/100mm. The photos shown below are jpgs directly from the camera, with all settings to "0" (e. g. sharpening, contrast, ...) or "standard" (e. g. color saturation")

f2.0

Tack sharp even wide open - the small parts of the antenna consist of on or two pixels, and everything is perfectly resolved.

No CA's at all, and even the colour fringing (CF) is remarkably low for an f2.0 lens.

f2.8

Resolution doesn't increase any more - it was perfect even at f2.0, and colour fringing is completely gone.

f4.0

f8.0
