Mamiya Sekor E 135mm 1:3.5

The Mamyia Sekor E 3.5/135mm is a small, lightweight (285 g) and pretty good medium tele photo lens originally made for the ZE in 1979. It appeared on the market together with five other primes (3./28, 1.7/50, 2/50, 3.5/50, and 4/200) as well as one zoom (3.8/80-200), and quickly became part of a bundle that was selling very well here in Switzerland (ZE plus 3.5/28, 1.7/50 and 3.5/135). As far as I remember the entire set was cheaper than a Minolta X-300.

The lens has a rugged metal barrel, but focusing and aperture rings were mate from polycarbonate, thus resulting in a plasticky feeling when working with the lens (no real rubber focsing grip!). The E 3.5/135mm has a Ernostar layout, typical for many 3.5/135mm of its time (the other layout used was based on Berteles Sonnar 4/135mm). I have been using the lens for years, mainly shooting girls at school when I was 14 / 15 years old, and thus nice memories are connected to that small unspectacular Sekor.

Since the lens obvioiusly was a budget lens, its perfomance is solid, but not spectacular. Nevertheless it can be used wide open without hesitation, especially for portraits near the MFD of 1.5 m. I'm pretty sure it was optimized for that, and the lens can  dissolve the background beautifully.

The Sekro E 3.5/135mm isn't rare at all. It is available for less than 10.-- CHF/USD/EUR, but usually is offered for 20.-- to 50.--. Often it's included in a set, together with the ZE and a 3.5/28mm and a 1.7/50mm lens.
